iKeepSafe holds Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Working Group; White Paper to be Released at ISTE 2013

ARLINGTON, VA— (April 4, 2013)— Under the direction of Glen Warren, Teacher Librarian and CSLA Vice President – Governmental Relations, iKeepSafe and key industry leaders from across the nation came together to participate in a working group titled, “Exploring BYOD: Civil Liberties, Access, and Expanded COPPA Rules.”

Marsali Hancock, President and CEO of iKeepSafe, understands the importance of having a discussion regarding BYOD. “Bringing our own technology into the classroom affects all stakeholders involved in education,” Hancock said. “iKeepSafe is honored to convene such a group of experts to explore the complexities of access, implementation, and civil liberty issues, particularly regarding expanded COPPA laws that are involved with BYOD initiatives. The meeting today was extremely productive.”

BYOD is an extensive topic that needs to be looked at. Topics explored at today’s working group included social media concerns, information protection, implementation of sound policies, and establishing clear expectations for parents.

“This working group is beginning to address the powerful, imperative BYOD questions that educators have been wondering and needing,” said academic technology specialist Elizabeth Calhoon.  “It is an honor to be among this esteemed team to help be a voice for teachers and local administrators.”

The outcome of this working group will be a white paper, sponsored by Kaspersky Lab, which will be released at the International Society of Technology Education (ISTE) conference this June.

In attendance was Glen Warren (the Chair of iKeepSafe’s BYOD initiatives), Linnette Attai, Kyle Brumbaugh, Elizabeth Calhoon, Camilla Gagliolo, Frank Gallagher, Nancy Gifford, Marsali Hancock, Mary Heston, Sally Linford, Charles Leitch, Ethan Parry, and Tim Sullivan.

With the generous sponsorship of Kaspersky Lab, iKeepSafe will write a white paper about BYOD.
